On May 21 2019 at 19:45 at the GelreDome Arnhem in the upcoming regular match of the Eredivisie championship play-offs the local Vitesse are going to play against their guests Groningen. This will be the match between two team fighting for the Europa League zone. In the first leg game the guests won 1:2 and yet it won’t be easy for them to keep their advantage.
At the final part of the season Vitesse made their fans happy with the victories against Venlo, Graafschap and Zwolle and they also drew Utrecht and lost to Ajax. As a result, they had 53 points gained with 70:51 goal difference and it let them take the fifth position in the standings in the end.
At the same time, Groningen won against Fortuna while in the rest of the matches they lost to Emmen, Zwolle, Ajax and Heerenveen. Anyway, the final eight position in the standings with 45 points gained and 39:41 goal difference seem to be great results for them. Making it to the Europa League is just a nice bonus for them.
The hosts are considered to be the favorites of the upcoming match as they looked a lot more solid in the regular part of the season. They could bring troubles to any competitors and that is why we won’t be surprised in case Vitesse this time.
