Lampard: Chelsea do not have guaranteed top six place

Chelsea London manager Frank Lampard shared his own opinion regarding the current EPL season and the future of his team.

Frank Lampard, who came to the post of Chelsea London head coach this summer after Maurizio Sarri, began with the difficulties that were expected in the career of the former midfielder and captain of the Blues. After a year of practice at Derby County, the Englishman had to deal with great difficulties of the transition period with the giant of British football.

The difficulties of Chelsea this season were written about more than once, so I will not repeat myself. I  will note only a few of them:

Firstly, it lost the team leader Eden Hazard. No matter how Sarri covered the “epithets” of the current Real Madrid winger that he would not become a leader on the pitch, the Belgian was such, if not for the whole team, then for midfield and attack for sure;

Secondly, a transfer ban for the season. Chelsea were able to sign only Pulisic, with whom the club agreed back in the winter transfer window. At the same time, the Pensioners did not keep Gonzalo Higuain at the club, who returned to Juventus under the wing of Sarri;

Thirdly, the departure of David Luiz and the lack of quality defense. Despite the well-coordinated defense by the Londoners, their defense is not an example to follow. Azpilicueta looks weaker in comparison with previous years, Marcos Alonso dropped out, and Rudiger needs a lot of time to adapt after an injury.

It is not surprising that after such events, Frank Lampard soberly talks about the possibility of Chelsea not getting into the top six of the best English clubs,

“This season, the Wolves, Leicester and Everton may break into the top six. They can succeed, because now it is difficult to determine the best teams from the table.

We are not guaranteed a place in the top six, given the situation that we have at Chelsea now, while other clubs have invested in their rosters. Clubs have good coaches, great players, they are competitive. In the Premier League now all games are more complex than ever.”

After five rounds, Chelsea are occupying the sixth place due to the failure of direct competitors in the person of the London Arsenal, who tied with Watford 2:2. Therefore, even despite 11 goals conceded in five matches, which is the second worst league indicator after Norwich, Chelsea have the potential to attack. Abraham and Mount, who scored ten goals for two, are worth noting. It is logical that a place in the four is expected from the Pensioners, but for now, for the Blues it will be a big victory to participate in European competitions next autumn, as well as to enter the Champions League playoffs.
