Monaco want Serge Aurier

Royal Monaco intend to purchase Serge Aurier from Tottenham to cement their defense.

In the past for France Ligue 1 season, Monaco took the ninth place after 28 rounds. The team constantly fought either for survival, or the European cups place and occupied a logical place in the middle of the standings. Whereas a significant leaning towards attack could be observed in the Monegasques’ game, while defense could not protect its own goal adequately.

It would seem like a nonsense that the team that scored 44 goals in 28 matches, which is the second indicator in the league, may end up so low.

It is obvious that Monaco have terrible defense, which needs to be strengthened this summer already. This is exactly why the Monegasques intend to bring Serge Aurier back to France, who shows himself well at Tottenham and previously performer at PSG, Toulouse and Lens.

The Ivorian can play both on right defender or lateral position and right midfielder. Basically, Aurier became the player, who managed to at least partially compensate Kyle Walker’s departure from Tottenham to Manchester City and won the battle for a place in the squad against Kieran Trippier. Serge joined Tottenham in 2017 and has spent 74 matches in total, in which he scored six goals and made 12 assists.

At the same time, Aurier has not been having the best reputation in the recent years. The player was blamed in suspicion of beating his girlfriend, no-shows, and lately he has been known for his quarantine violation. The transfer looks similar to Manchester City’s intent to sign Grealish, of whom we wrote recently. The footballers differ very strongly by profile, but are very much alike in character.

Monaco may risk and they must do that as the team has a stalemate situation in defense. Aurier fits them as he has experience of play on different positions and also has a great experience of performance in Ligue 1. In this case the transfer is more rational than the possible transfer of Grealish to City.
